It’s Not What You Do, It’s Who You Need To Be

As you’re getting ready to jump on setting goals for the new year, let me give you one major piece of advice to actually accomplish your goals for next year: success isn’t about the individual things you need to do, it’s about being the person you need to be in order to accomplish those things.

If you want new results, you need to take new action — and as an entrepreneur, that begins with exploring who you are.

In a corporate setting, you may be used to your goals being task-oriented. The structure has already been set for you, you only need to do the work, and finish the tasks. This way the company reaches its goals as a cumulative effect of so many collective employees completing their tasks.

But as an entrepreneur, your success is linked more closely to you as a person. Your business’s success is dependent on YOUR efforts and mindset. If your goal is to double your income in 2022 but you’re operating in a ‘scarcity’ mindset, you’ll struggle to make that happen because your outlook and goals aren’t aligned. It’s all about evaluating your attitude and mindset that will make your to-do list seem a lot less intimidating.

This sounds easy, because it is not complicated, but just because it’s not complicated doesn’t mean it’s actually easy to do.  It’s not about changing who you are, it’s about embracing who you are. It’s turning everything you know about the way of the world on its head, and it’s asking you to do a lot of hard work on yourself to embrace your confidence and to let go of the things that don’t serve you.

But the good news is that you are in complete control of all of this. If you do the work, your results are all but guaranteed. While the financial reward is a great motivator, you’ll get so much more: you’ll also find so much freedom! You’ll find freedom from struggling internally, from disappointment, and from frustration.

When you embrace a “the sky’s the limit” personality, you’ll be able to try new strategies or tools without fear of failure, because you’re just looking for the best things to achieve your goals and scale your business. 

When you started your business, it took a lot of bravery to dive in. So call on that same bravery now as you look into your future, and open yourself up to the difficult and honest conversations you have to have with yourself. It’s uncomfortable for a minute, and then it’s amazing forever. 

The best effort you can make in achieving your goals is being open to learning more about yourself. When you stop avoiding the hard parts or turning a blind eye to the places you could improve, you’ll be more willing to work on yourself, and the risk will be so worth the reward.

Gear up for your new year and new goals by doing the work on yourself first, and you’ll set your business up to grow and scale at a faster pace, but more importantly, you’ll have more confidence and peace in yourself.
